You gotta read this email!

So I decided to check my email account that I never check and lo and behold - look what I found! Some guy named Harry Hall from the UK decided to take it upon himself to put this "conspiracy theorist" in his place. Harry, it turns out, is concerned at my (along with the other contributors to this blog's, apparently - as well as its readers') lack of cognitive power. So I figured I should pass the message on to all of you other zombie enthusiasts out there. So here it is, in an email Mr. Hall has entitled "Your unbelievably vast stupidity":

"You entirely missed the point when you based your entire website on one book. Brooks ripped the piss out of the "survival handbook" genre while keeping a perfectly straight face, and people like you, who believe conspiracy theories despite lack of evidence (and evidence against in plentiful supply), simply refuse to believe the truth and get sucked in by the most stupid idea in existence. Visit the website below for proof that he wrote the book as a joke. Maybe, if you'd studied medicine at university like I have, you'd have realised that it is a physical impossibility for a virus to affect cerebal activity in any other way than hallucingogenics and shutting it down permanently.

The theorem portrayed is that it "melts" the front lobe of the brain while still maintaining base functionality; a theoretical possibility never seen or proven. However, this would destroy any possibility of the virus transmitting its "urge to spread" (which it doesn't have; it has no wish to spread, it simply wants to feed) to a higher brain function: oh yeah -- they've all been destroyed.

Ultimately, the disease breaks the fundamental rule of all diseases: adverse affects to the body are simply side-effects of the feeding of the virus. This would mean that the disease would die out (if it is a virus, there has to be a zombie somewhere in the world at any one time, as viruses cannot survive without an organism to feed off) as it kills too quickly; a
24-hour disease epidemic is impossible, as the virus would not have time to spread. Oh yeah -- and don't be an idiot, reanimation after death as a "biologically dead but somehow mystically functioning creature" is impossible.

If i was to sum all this up, I would do it by saying: it isn't a biological theory. Why? because the word biological includes the word LOGIC. Which is exactly what the theory lacks.

The link is to an interview with Max Brooks; he acknowledges it's a joke. Bad luck. Better luck with the next stupid conspiracy.

Harry, UK"

What can I say? I feel debunked. I've already emailed Mr. Hall back to thank him for correcting the error of my ways. Perhaps you all should do the same. His email address is: harriieee@hotmail.com

I'm sure he'd love to hear from any and all of you.

In Harry's defense, he seems to have recognized his faux pas. I sent him a cheerful email informing him of his idiocy and wishing him a great day to which he replied:

maybe i am, my friend; maybe i am.

Seems a decent enough guy. Takes balls to admit you've made a mistake. Maybe we can cut him some slack in the future, hmmm?

Amanda - you're clearly a kinder soul than I. But I am glad to hear that Harry has recognized the error of his ways. Let's hope that Harry will learn from his mistake and not need that slack in the future.

right now as far as an appropriate referance goes for serious zombie conversation Max Brooks has set the standard for a serious zombie survival discussion. my views do differ from Mr. Brooks as far as zombie survival goes.

It is also known that there are parasites that do infest the brain and do alter behavior in animals. even though mr. Brooks book is not bases on scientific fact It does use the movie greats as referance and until some one makes more zombie referance material there is not much to draw from.

I'm sorry that I just found out your blog recently, you have lots of useful information.
Regarding Harry's email, I always like to hear the opposing side of the zombie argument. If anything, it provides a necessary counter-point, which may benefit our research by encouraging us on the anti-zombie front to research the zombie threat in even more depth.
Still, I'd rather fall on the "better safe than sorry" side of the argument.

I love finding more Zombie fans online. This is entirely a flight of fancy in a very odd way and some folks, well they need to relax and enjoy the escape. I am a new Zombie fan and loving the death out of it!

I have been reading the Walking Dead which I just discovered and World War Z. It is so nice to think of something else right now other day to day life.

Keep up the good work on the blog and thanks.

I must say I find it hilarious that the reference is a suicide girls site page. Couldn't even go on it at work.

Also, I've been thikning that the whole thing might actually be a fungi related scenerio - some offshoot strain of a cordycept that has jumped to humans. Any comment?

I must admit I came to this theory upon whaching the planet earth series.

"The word biological contains the word LOGIC." Very good point Harold, but the fact that the word biological contains the letters L-O-G-I-C in that specific sequence has no relevance what-so-ever to the word's meaning. It's the same as pointing out the fact that manslaughter contains the proper sequence of letters to spell out LAUGHTER. So if the good doctor's theory is correct and all words which are coincidentally contained in other words have direct relation to the meaning of the larger word, then he must be implying that laughter is required when participating in manslaughter. While I have believed this to be true for years, it's a good feeling to finally get some validation from one who has "studied medicine at a university".

You can tell my the way this guy was talking all facts that he has no common sense. Its not his fault, unfortunately its genetic, in exactly the same way as a zombie mother passes on the virus.....

well the man has a vague point if and only if there were some infection then it is only probable that it would be much more like 28 days later where they are still alive but, what this does not accredit is the possible lowering of natural body temperature causing the infected personal to burn far less calories. so even though the guy lacks imagination living dead is impossible i am not trying do be a douche bag merely spreading facts if there were an infection. Also something hardly considered 99% of out bodies calories and lipids are spent creating heat so prolonged infected people is also very possible but this skill so to say could only be acquired by adaptation of the virus

Zombies may not be the smartest people around, but some can write.

I'm glad Mr Hall has realised his errors and will support your blog in ensuring we're all better prepared.
